WMU supervisor honored for mentoring, customer service, leadership

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—A Western Michigan University student supervisor was recognized this spring by a regional organization for his mentoring, professionalism and leadership.

Tyler Payne, student employment supervisor at the University's Help Desk, was named Student Employment Supervisor of the Year for Michigan by the Midwest Association of Student Employment Administrators, representing the 14-state region.

"Tyler is one of those guys who has the perfect balance of technical skills and people skills," says his supervisor Arnold Taylor, director of support services for WMU's Office of Information Technology. "He is committed to making sure he's serving people and brings an attitude of customer service to the job every day."

Payne supervises about 20 student technicians at WMU's Help Desk, which handles both telephone and walk-in customers with computer hardware, software, and mobile device related questions or problems. He also was named the University's Supervisor of the Year for 2015.

A graduate of Grand Valley State University, he joined WMU in 2010.
